This artwork was created for a collective exhibition which took place at Jealous Gallery in London in 2022. It was then exhibited at the prestigious Saatchi Gallery in 2023.

I made this illustration in spring 2020, during the first covid lockdown. It is very different from anything I had done before and since then, both for pragmatic and internal reasons. I had none of my drawing tools with me so I decided to experiment with digital drawing which resulted in something quite naive... and obviously the start of the pandemy had thrown many of us in a bizarre emotional landscape. At that time, I was obsessed with the esthetic of roads. I was roaming them every day during the little time we were allowed to be out. It was a time of endless daydreaming yet it's a night walking scene that came to me. It is imbued with a longing for freedom, for a journey without a set destination or timing, in the night that had suddenly become welcoming, reassuring, control and anxiety free... At the same time, there was a sense of detachment about things, a big letting go that the character's gait may reflect.

A few years later, I have a completely different reading of this image. The path, the night, and still the hopeful light of the stars above and the nature around, still and quiet, forever present.. are now an annonciation of the healing journey that was to come for many of us. The dark night of the soul. The shadow to explore. A night walk.
